Devils Sign Luke Evangelista to Five-Year, $36.25M Extension
The contract begins in 2027-28 and carries a $7.25 million average annual value for the forward New Jersey acquired this month.
The New Jersey Devils and Luke Evangelista agreed to a five-year, $36.25 million contract extension Tuesday night. The deal begins in 2027-28 and carries a $7.25 million average annual value.
The contract is front-loaded. Evangelista is scheduled to earn $9.7 million in 2027-28, $8.26 million in 2028-29, $6.12 million in 2029-30 and $6.085 million in each of the final two seasons.
New Jersey acquired the 24-year-old from the Nashville Predators on Sept. 1 for Colorado's conditional first-round pick in the 2028 NHL Draft and the Devils' 2028 second-round selection.
Evangelista still has one season remaining on a two-year, $6 million contract with a $3 million average annual value, so the extension does not begin until 2027-28.
The Toronto native recorded 12 goals and a career-high 56 points in 81 games for Nashville last season. The upcoming campaign will be his fifth in the NHL and his first with New Jersey.
