Devils Add Four to Coaching Staff Under Sheldon Keefe

The New Jersey Devils announced four additions to their coaching and development staff on July 15, completing head coach Sheldon Keefe's group.

Leo Luongo, 41, was named director of goaltending. He spent the past 10 seasons with the Florida Panthers, most recently as head of goalie development and scouting. Luongo will oversee all goaltending development and report to executive vice president Martin Brodeur.

Ted Donato, 57, joins as an assistant coach after 22 seasons as head coach at Harvard. He won 334 games, the most in program history, and led the Crimson to eight NCAA tournament appearances and four ECAC Hockey titles.

AJ MacLean, 42, was hired as an assistant coach. He spent the past three seasons as an assistant with Syracuse, Tampa Bay's AHL affiliate. MacLean previously worked under Keefe with Toronto's AHL team from 2015 to 2020, winning the Calder Cup in 2018.

Dan Stewart rounds out the staff as goaltending coach. He spent the past six seasons with the St. Louis Blues organization as goaltending development coach and AHL goaltending coach in Springfield.

The hires replace last season's staff of assistant coaches Jeremy Colliton, Brad Shaw, and Sergei Brylin, along with goaltending coach Dave Rogalski. nhl.com reported that Rogalski was relieved of his duties in May, while Brylin moved to a new role within the organization.

The moves come under new general manager Sunny Mehta as the Devils reshape their coaching structure around Keefe, who was hired as head coach earlier this offseason.
