Coleman scores in Wild debut as Minnesota beats Predators 3-1

Blake Coleman scored the winning goal on the power play, and Jesper Wallstedt made 19 saves in Minnesota’s season opener.

Blake Coleman scored on the power play in his Minnesota Wild debut as the Wild beat the Nashville Predators 3-1 at Bridgestone Arena on Thursday, Oct. 1. Both teams were opening their regular season.

Coleman took a pass from Bobby Brink and beat Juuse Saros from close range at 13:48 of the first period. The goal made it 2-0 and proved to be the winner. Nick Foligno had put Minnesota ahead at 9:35 after collecting a rebound in the high slot.

Nashville narrowed the gap at 9:23 of the second period, when Roman Josi scored on a one-timer from a Filip Forsberg pass. Kirill Kaprizov restored the two-goal lead at 4:42 of the third by redirecting a Quinn Hughes point shot.

Jesper Wallstedt stopped 19 of 20 shots for Minnesota. Saros made 27 saves for Nashville.

The Wild also had an apparent first-period goal by Yakov Trenin erased after Nashville successfully challenged for Ryan Hartman's interference with Saros.
