Samuel Montembeault's recovery timetable remained uncertain Thursday, Oct. 8, after the Montreal Canadiens goaltender left Wednesday's practice with an injury. Coach Martin St. Louis said Montembeault would undergo further examination later Thursday, Sportsnet reported.
The Canadiens confirmed that Jacob Fowler will start against the Nashville Predators at the Bell Centre on Thursday night, making his season debut a day after his recall from the Laval Rocket.
Montembeault left Wednesday's session at CN Sports Complex and was being evaluated. Jakub Dobes has started Montreal's first three games this season, while Montembeault has yet to appear.
Fowler, 21, went 9-6-2 with a 2.43 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage in 17 NHL games in 2025-26. Montembeault played 25 games last season, with a 3.43 goals-against average and an .872 save percentage.
