Bruins score three late goals to beat Rangers 3-0 in opener
Jeremy Swayman stopped 24 shots for his 19th NHL shutout as Boston broke a scoreless tie in the final four minutes.
The Boston Bruins broke open a scoreless season opener with three goals in 75 seconds, beating the New York Rangers 3-0 at TD Garden on Tuesday.
Fraser Minten put Boston ahead at 16:14 of the third period. JJ Peterka scored 52 seconds later in his Bruins regular-season debut, and Mark Kastelic added an empty-net goal at 17:29. Minten assisted on the final goal.
Jeremy Swayman stopped all 24 Rangers shots for his 19th NHL shutout. He turned aside chances from Pavel Dorofeyev and J.T. Miller in quick succession midway through the third period. Igor Shesterkin made 20 saves for New York, including a glove stop on Casey Mittelstadt after a Boston rush.
Peterka joined the Bruins in a June 26 trade with the Utah Mammoth. He scored Boston’s second goal after the teams had gone more than two and a half periods without scoring.
