Bruins preview: Lindholm highlights defence joining the rush in Anaheim
Boston’s defencemen have five goals through seven games as the Bruins prepare to face the Ducks on Friday.
Hampus Lindholm said Boston’s defencemen are finding better opportunities to support the attack as the Bruins prepare to visit the Anaheim Ducks at Honda Center on Friday, Oct. 16.
The Bruins reported Thursday that their defence has contributed five goals in seven games, with at least one in each of the past three. At practice in Anaheim, Lindholm said familiarity with the system has helped players judge when to move up the ice.
He described joining behind the forwards as an option, rather than having a defenceman lead every attack. Lindholm has a goal and three assists so far this season, according to the club.
Coach Sturm said Boston regularly uses a drill to encourage its defencemen to activate, with particular attention to their first strides. He said the returning group’s experience has allowed the staff to spend more practice time refining its play.
Friday is the second stop on Boston’s four-game road trip. Lindholm said he had enjoyed seeing familiar faces in Anaheim, but his priority was helping Boston win.
