Boston Fleet Re-Sign Rookie Abby Newhook to Two-Year Deal
The 2026 PWHL All-Rookie Team forward is locked in through the 2027-28 season after a strong first year.
The Boston Fleet announced Tuesday that they have re-signed forward Abby Newhook to a two-year contract through the 2027-28 season. Newhook was one of three players the Fleet protected during Phase 3 of the PWHL's Expansion Player Distribution Process.
The 23-year-old from St. John's, Newfoundland, earned a spot on the PWHL All-Rookie Team after her first professional season. In 29 regular-season games, Newhook scored seven goals and added seven assists for 14 points, finishing second among first-year forwards in scoring. She led all rookies with a plus-17 rating and contributed one assist in four playoff appearances as Boston reached the semifinals before falling to Ottawa.
Newhook made an immediate impact, scoring three goals in her first four games after being selected 34th overall in the fifth round of the 2025 PWHL Draft. She played four seasons at Boston College, appearing in 142 games and totaling 113 points while serving as captain her senior year. At 14, she became the youngest girl from Newfoundland to commit to an NCAA Division I program.
The signing brings Boston's roster to 17 players for the upcoming season, including 15 returnees. Newhook joins fellow forwards Loren Gabel, Ella Huber, Laura Kluge, Shay Maloney, Olivia Mobley, Jill Saulnier, Liz Schepers, Sophie Shirley, Susanna Tapani, and newcomer Taylor House. The Fleet also return 2026 PWHL Rookie of the Year Haley Winn, Defender of the Year Megan Keller, and MVP and Goaltender of the Year Aerin Frankel.
Newhook's brother Alex plays for the Montreal Canadiens after being drafted 16th overall by Colorado in 2019.
