Sergei Bobrovsky said Friday that he accidentally interrupted Gavin McKenna's rookie lap before Toronto's Sept. 29 home opener.

At practice, the Maple Leafs goaltender told reporters he had forgotten McKenna was due to skate alone before his NHL debut. Sportsnet reported his explanation on Oct. 2.

"I just completely forgot. I didn't think about it," Bobrovsky said. He said he later spoke with McKenna about the mix-up.

Bobrovsky went onto the ice before McKenna as the other Toronto players waited in the tunnel. McKenna, the first selection in the 2026 NHL Draft, then made his regular-season debut at Scotiabank Arena. NHL.com documented the rookie lap before the game.
