Babcock names Jarry to start Oilers opener against Canucks

Edmonton will be without Jason Dickinson as it opens the season Tuesday at Rogers Place.

Edmonton Oilers coach Mike Babcock has named Tristan Jarry to start Tuesday's season opener against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Place, the club confirmed in its game preview. Puck drop is 10 p.m. ET on Sportsnet.

Jarry made 40 saves on 42 shots over five pre-season periods against Winnipeg and Vancouver, according to the Oilers. Babcock said the goalie improved his conditioning and worked with goaltending coach Peter Aubry after a difficult finish to his first season in Edmonton.

Forward Jason Dickinson will miss the opener while recovering from a foot injury he re-aggravated in training camp, Babcock said.
