Zub Set To Miss Senators Opener With Lower Body Injury
Travis Green said Wednesday that the defenceman is still working back from the injury that ended his playoff run.
Artem Zub is not expected to be ready for Ottawa's season opener on Oct. 3 against the Toronto Maple Leafs, coach Travis Green told reporters Wednesday, as the defenceman continues to recover from a lower body injury.
It is the same issue that cut short Zub's spring. He missed the final three games of Ottawa's first-round playoff loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
Zub, 30, had five goals and 25 assists in 81 games for the Senators last season.
He was not the only blue liner Green had to address. Jake Sanderson is dealing with something Green described as "minor," enough to keep him out of Wednesday's pre-season split-squad games against Toronto.
There was better news up front. Forward Warren Foegele skated for the first time at camp Wednesday, though he will not play in either half of the split squad.
Ottawa's regular season begins next week.
