Zonnon Returns to Penguins Camp Stronger After Injury-Hit Year

Bill Zonnon is skating at Pittsburgh's 2026 training camp after a knee injury kept him out of drills a year earlier. The Penguins listed him among the injured players who were not cleared for their 2025 camp; Zonnon described his return in a September interview with TribLIVE.

The No. 22 pick in the 2025 NHL Draft told TribLIVE he added about eight pounds after exit meetings with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton stressed strength. Another injury interrupted his return to Blainville-Boisbriand last season, but he finished with 46 points in 35 Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League games. He then joined Wilkes-Barre/Scranton for the Calder Cup playoffs, scoring in each of his first three AHL appearances, according to Pittsburgh's account. TribLIVE reports he had seven points in 11 playoff games overall.

Pittsburgh signed Zonnon to a three-year entry-level contract on March 22 that begins in 2026-27. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton could be his starting point, though no assignment has been announced. Its coach, Kirk MacDonald, told TribLIVE the added strength should help Zonnon on faceoffs and when defending down low. Zonnon said he wants to become a dependable option wherever he plays.
