Wedgewood brings book club to NHL.com, plans Avalanche fan meetups
The Colorado goalie says his online reading group has about 5,600 members, with gatherings planned at Avalanche theme nights.
Scott Wedgewood is taking his online book club to NHL.com through a monthly blog, and says members will also be able to meet at Colorado Avalanche theme nights this season.
In his first post, published Oct. 20, the Avalanche goaltender described Wedge’s Book Wall, which uses Fable for book discussions and has Instagram and TikTok accounts. He reported nearly 25,000 Instagram followers and roughly 5,600 members in the Fable group.
Wedgewood is reading one book a month with the group. Members chose the first selection by voting on four books. Fable separates discussions by chapter so people can take part as they read without seeing later plot details. The group also has spaces for introductions and bookshop recommendations.
Wedgewood said book-club members will have opportunities to meet at five Avalanche theme nights this season.
He is considering an Instagram live discussion at the end of each month, possibly while travelling with the team. He said that idea has yet to begin.
Wedgewood said his first post about the club was Sept. 13 and that members now include readers from Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
