Two Flyers First Rounders Land On Phantoms Prospect List

Two of the Philadelphia Flyers' recent first-round picks show up on Lehigh Valley's side of the ledger in Yardbarker's preseason ranking of the organization's top 10 prospects, published Monday.

Oliver Bonk, taken 22nd overall in 2023, is listed as a member of the Phantoms in the ranking, though the piece describes him as a genuine contender for a spot on Philadelphia's bottom pairing on the right side. The projection is more measured than his junior numbers suggested: a two-way defenseman with a long-term ceiling as a No. 5, rather than the offensive producer implied by a 67-point OHL season in his draft-plus-one year.

Jett Luchanko is the other. The 20-year-old center, drafted 13th overall in 2024, is finished with junior hockey after posting nine goals and 41 assists in 48 OHL games between the regular season and playoffs. The ranking calls that output disappointing for a draft-plus-two prospect at that slot while still projecting him as a possible two-way middle-six center, and frames a year with the Phantoms as a useful change of pace.

Porter Martone tops the list, followed by goaltender Egor Zavragin and winger Alex Bump. Martone enters the season as the favorite for the Calder Trophy after 15 points in 19 regular-season and playoff games last spring.

For Lehigh Valley, the practical read is that at least one of the two, and possibly both, could open the season in the AHL depending on how Philadelphia's camp shakes out.
