Tokarski hangs up the pads, joins Hurricanes as goalie scout
The AHL's ninth-winningest goaltender moves into scouting after a 17-year playing career that ended in 2025-26.
Dustin Tokarski has joined the Carolina Hurricanes as a goaltending scout, moving into the front office after wrapping up a 17-year playing career in 2025-26.
In the role, Tokarski will work with both Carolina's amateur and pro scouting groups, evaluating goaltenders at every level: draft eligibles, trade targets and free agents.
The résumé he brings is largely an AHL one, and a substantial one at that. Tokarski finished with a 228-154-41 record, a 2.57 goals-against average and a.910 save percentage across 446 American Hockey League appearances, a tour that took him through Norfolk, Syracuse, Hamilton, St. John's, San Diego, Lehigh Valley, Hartford, Charlotte, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton, Rochester, Chicago and Grand Rapids. He ranks ninth all-time among AHL goaltenders in wins, 13th in games played and eighth in shutouts with 30.
He was better still in the spring. Tokarski went 20-7 with a 1.85 goals-against average, a.932 save percentage and four shutouts in 30 Calder Cup Playoff appearances, winning championships with Norfolk in 2012 and with Charlotte in 2019.
A native of Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Tokarski was a fifth-round pick of Tampa Bay in the 2008 NHL Draft. He played 86 NHL regular-season games with the Lightning, Canadiens, Ducks, Sabres, Penguins and Hurricanes. His most visible stretch came in 2014, when he was pressed into the Montreal net during the Eastern Conference Final and posted a.916 save percentage in five appearances.
