T.J. Hughes scores hat trick as Avalanche beat Jets in preseason

T.J. Hughes scored a hat trick and added an assist as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 in a preseason game at Ball Arena on Friday.
Winnipeg led 2-1 late in the second period before Hughes scored at 18:28 and again at 19:49, sending Colorado into the third with a 3-2 lead. He completed the hat trick with an empty-net goal at 19:38 of the third. His four points earned him the game's first star.
Jaden Schwartz had a goal and two assists for Colorado. He tied the game 1-1 at 6:07 of the second period, with Hughes and Fedor Svechkov assisting. Cale Makar scored at 15:25 of the third, assisted by Nathan MacKinnon and Devon Toews. Nazem Kadri had two assists.
Nino Niederreiter scored a first-period power-play goal for Winnipeg, and Vladislav Namestnikov put the Jets ahead 2-1 at 7:36 of the second.
Mackenzie Blackwood made 24 saves on 26 shots for Colorado. The Avalanche outshot the Jets 33-26.
