Aydar Suniev scored his first NHL goal for the Calgary Flames on Saturday, Oct. 10, after moving to a line with Morgan Frost and Matt Coronato.

With Calgary trailing Anaheim 2-1, Suniev received Coronato's pass from behind the net and found an opening beside Ville Husso. His sharp-angle shot tied the game at 17:54 of the second period.

“I saw that opening there, just trying to shoot there and it went in,” Suniev said. “It’s so great. You dream about it, scoring your first goal, and here it is. Thanks, Matty, for that pass.”

Sportsnet reported that Suniev had moved up from the checking line, where he played in his season debut two nights earlier. The winger had returned to the NHL from the Calgary Wranglers earlier in the week.

Suniev, 21, was selected by Calgary in the third round of the 2023 NHL Draft. He thanked Coronato for helping create the goal and described his excitement at reaching the milestone.

The Flames lost 4-2 to the Ducks, leaving Calgary without a win through five games.
