Suchanek eyes fresh start in San Diego after ACL recovery
The Gulls goaltender says he worked with a mental coach this summer after a difficult return season.
San Diego Gulls goaltender Tomas Suchanek says he is eager to regain the form he showed before an ACL tear cost him the entire 2024-25 season.
Suchanek went 14-10-5 with a 2.92 goals-against average and .910 save percentage in 29 AHL games in 2023-24. In 15 Gulls games last season, he went 5-7-3 with a 3.31 goals-against average and .879 save percentage, according to the club.
Suchanek told SanDiegoGulls.com that he worked through the summer, including with a mental coach, after a return he described as disappointing. “This year I just feel great and very excited to show how can I play,” he said.
San Diego lists Laurent Brossoit and Damian Clara alongside Suchanek in its goaltending group. Gulls goaltending coach Jeff Glass said Suchanek has already shown he can win at the AHL level but must prove it again.
