Stuart Skinner Makes 31 Saves in Jets Preseason Debut
Winnipeg’s new goaltender carried a shutout into the final six minutes of a 3-1 win over Colorado.
Stuart Skinner made 31 saves in his Winnipeg Jets preseason debut as Winnipeg beat the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 at Canada Life Centre on Monday.
Skinner played the full game and carried a shutout into the final six minutes. Georgii Merkulov scored Colorado’s only goal with just over five minutes remaining in the third period.
Winnipeg fans greeted Skinner with “Stuuuu” chants before the anthem and after saves throughout the game.
“Honestly, just the love from the fans, especially at the beginning there before the anthem, that felt fantastic,” Skinner said after the game, according to NHL.com. “The ‘Stu’ chants around a couple saves, those always feel really good. You can tell how much the fans love it here, how much they love their hockey, how much they love their players.”
Gabriel Vilardi, Cole Perfetti and Dylan DeMelo scored for Winnipeg.
The win moved the Jets to 1-1-0 in the preseason. They are scheduled to face the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday and play Colorado again on Friday.
