Dallas heads into its home game against the San Jose Sharks on Monday, Oct. 5, looking for more offence after scoring once in its first two games of the season.

Miro Heiskanen supplied that goal 47 seconds into Saturday's loss at Nashville. The Stars also lost their opener against St. Louis, leaving coach Glen Gulutzan focused on how his team moves the puck and creates chances.

“I don't think we've executed at the level we need to through the first two games — certainly on the offensive side of the puck,” Gulutzan said in the Stars' game-day report. He said Dallas needs cleaner exits from its own end and less time defending before it can build an attack.

Captain Jamie Benn pointed to the team's opening periods after the Nashville game: “Slow starts. First periods have been terrible. It's on the players in here.”

San Jose brings Macklin Celebrini, who has five assists through two games this season. The Stars' report notes that Celebrini has also collected five assists in his past two meetings with Dallas, giving the home team another challenge as it tries to turn its start around.
