Carolina raised its second Stanley Cup championship banner in front of 19,250 fans at Lenovo Center on Tuesday, Sept. 29, before opening the 2026-27 season against Florida. The Hurricanes said the standing-room crowd was the largest for a regular-season home game at the arena.

Captain Jordan Staal carried the Cup onto the ice and lifted it toward the stands before placing it at centre ice for a pregame Storm Surge. Players clapped with the crowd, then gathered around to touch the trophy as Staal raised it again. The banner ceremony followed, adding the 2026 title to the franchise's 2006 championship in the rafters.

Only two regular-season home games in Hurricanes history have drawn more fans, according to the club: the Feb. 18, 2023 Stadium Series game against Washington at Carter-Finley Stadium (56,961) and the Nov. 21, 1997 game against the New York Rangers at Greensboro Coliseum (19,358).

Coach Rod Brind'Amour said the celebration gave fans a chance to share a moment they had missed when Carolina clinched the Cup in Las Vegas. Staal said the anticipation of starting a new season made it difficult to fully take in the ceremony. Goaltender Brandon Bussi said the supporters deserved the opportunity to celebrate.

Staal won the 2026 Conn Smythe Trophy when Carolina claimed the Cup in June. The Hurricanes also performed a Storm Surge in Las Vegas after clinching the championship; Tuesday's celebration brought the trophy into their home-arena ritual.
