Six scorers send Wilkes-Barre/Scranton past Hershey 6-3
Brayden Edwards produced three points as the Penguins opened their AHL preseason with a road win over the Bears.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton opened its AHL preseason with a 6-3 win at Hershey on Sunday. The Penguins led 3-0 after 10:30 and held the Bears to 14 shots at Giant Center.
Phil Kemp scored at 3:14, Mikhail Ilyin added a goal at 8:09, and Hugh McGing converted a power play at 10:30. Hershey's Alex Suzdalev answered at 15:57, but the Bears managed only two shots in the first period.
Tiernan Shoudy and Daniel Russell extended the lead to 5-1 in the second. Suzdalev scored again at 4:30 of the third and assisted on Jérémie Biakabutuka's goal at 16:47. Brayden Edwards finished the scoring into an empty net at 19:11. Edwards had a goal and two assists; Ilyin, Atley Calvert and Brent Johnson also recorded multiple points.
Taylor Gauthier made 11 saves for the Penguins. Hershey's Cal Petersen stopped 15 of 20 shots through two periods, and Garin Bjorklund saved all eight shots he faced in the third.
Wilkes-Barre/Scranton is scheduled to visit the Lehigh Valley Phantoms at PPL Center on Tuesday, Sept. 29, at 7:05 p.m. The Penguins begin the regular season at home against Springfield on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 6:05 p.m.
