Sirens lock up Casey O'Brien on two-year deal

The Manhattan native, a Rookie of the Year finalist and one of New York's three expansion protections, is signed through the 2027-28 season.

Casey O'Brien is staying home. The New York Sirens announced Wednesday that they have re-signed the forward to a two-year Standard Player Agreement that runs through the 2027-28 season.

The club had already signalled how much it valued her. O'Brien was one of the Sirens' three protected players in Phase 1 of the PWHL's Expansion Player Distribution Process.

The reason was her first pro season. The third overall pick in the 2025 PWHL Draft led all first-year players in scoring with 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) in 28 games and ranked fifth in average ice time among rookies. She was a finalist for the 2026 PWHL Rookie of the Year award and was named to the league's All-Rookie Team.

The 25-year-old arrived with a heavy resume. She won the 2025 Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award, captured three NCAA national championships and left the University of Wisconsin as the highest-scoring player in Badgers history.

"I am so excited to be a Siren for the next two years," O'Brien said in the team's release. "I want to win, and I want to win here in New York. I believe in what we're building here, and I'm looking forward to the opportunity to help create a championship caliber team and culture. I'm counting down the days until we're back at The Rock (Prudential Center). Let's go, Sirens!"

The signing gives New York 19 players under contract, 10 of them forwards. O'Brien is one of 10 Sirens signed beyond next season.

The Sirens open their home schedule on Dec. 6 at Prudential Center.
