Sharks Open Camp With Musty, Lund and Keyser Injured

San Jose Sharks general manager Mike Grier opened training camp by handing out bad news on three players, per San Jose Hockey Now.

Forward prospect Quentin Musty and goaltender Kyle Keyser are both dealing with upper-body injuries. "I wouldn't expect to see them for a couple months at least," Grier said. Forward Cam Lund, also with an upper-body injury, is out at least a month.

Musty was hit in the face by a puck off the stick of Miko Matikka early in Sunday's Rookie Faceoff game, a 3-1 San Jose win over the Utah Mammoth. He returned to the game and scored an empty-netter to close it out. The 2023 first-round pick has had his development slowed by injuries and a trade request in junior, and he came into this camp hoping to push for his NHL debut.

"Talking to him, he's a little bit down and disappointed," Grier said. "Not only him, but all the [injured] guys. You got to have a positive attitude and keep your head up."

Lund, a 2022 second-round pick, took a high hit from Los Angeles Kings defenseman Jared Woolley in Saturday's Rookie Faceoff game. His 2025-26 season ended in February with a shoulder injury, so a month is the shorter road by comparison.

Keyser, signed as a free agent, was slated to add goaltending depth to the San Jose Barracuda. Grier said the club's recent signing of Ilya Samsonov was a direct response to the Keyser injury. Samsonov, most recently in the KHL, has not reported to camp yet while he waits on immigration clearance. San Jose Hockey Now projects Eric Comrie and Samsonov to share Barracuda starts once Samsonov arrives.

Elsewhere at camp, center Filip Bystedt and defenseman Mattias Havelid missed the first day with day-to-day issues, and 2025 second-round defenseman Leo Sahlin Wallenius skated after sitting out the Rookie Faceoff.
