Sharks name Macklin Celebrini youngest captain in team history

The 20-year-old succeeds Logan Couture and takes the captaincy after a 115-point season.

The San Jose Sharks named Macklin Celebrini their captain Friday, making the 20-year-old the youngest player to hold the role in franchise history, the NHL reported. He is the team's first captain since Logan Couture announced his retirement in April 2025.

Former Sharks captain Joe Thornton presented Celebrini with a No. 71 jersey after practice. General manager Mike Grier pointed to Celebrini's work ethic and leadership when announcing the appointment.

Celebrini recorded 115 points (45 goals, 70 assists) in 82 games last season. The Sharks signed him to a five-year, $94 million contract extension in July.
