Sharks Camp Opens With Barracuda Roles Still Up for Grabs
San Jose opens camp Thursday with several players competing for NHL jobs and places on the Barracuda depth chart.
The San Jose Sharks open training camp Thursday at Sharks Ice with several roster battles that will also shape the San Jose Barracuda.
The Sharks will divide camp into two groups, with assignments subject to change each day. Head coach Ryan Warsofsky is scheduled to address the media after each day's final session.
Several forwards enter camp between levels. Alex Barré-Boulet can compete for an NHL spot or become a leading scorer for the Barracuda. Ty Dellandrea and Brett Leason are trying to hold off younger forwards and avoid starting the season in the AHL. Ethan Cardwell faces a crowded path to an NHL role, while Tye Felhaber is trying to regain the AHL scoring pace he showed in 2024-25.
Other players are competing for places deeper on the Barracuda roster. Anthony Vincent must defend his role against new additions. Donavan Houle and Mack Oliphant are trying to establish themselves as full-time AHL options instead of returning to the ECHL. Veteran defenseman Roland McKeown could provide leadership on the blue line.
Health is the main question for Mattias Havelid after he appeared in 44 games for the Barracuda last season. Leo Sahlin Wallenius must adjust to North American hockey, while Phillip Sinn arrives from Germany's DEL as another new option on defense.
