Senators seek third straight win to open season in Detroit
Ottawa, one of four undefeated teams, finishes its road trip against a Red Wings club that has scored twice in two games and may get Dylan Larkin back.
The Ottawa Senators can win three straight to open a season for the first time since 2012-13 when they close out their road trip Tuesday night against the Detroit Red Wings.
Ottawa enters as one of four undefeated teams in the NHL, alongside Colorado, Minnesota and Anaheim. Tim Stützle scored twice in 1:43 in Monday's win in Boston, the first on a penalty kill and the second moments after the penalty expired. He also set up Drake Batherson for a breakaway and finished with three points. He carries a two-game point streak into Detroit.
Stützle said Ottawa’s confidence comes from maintaining the style of play it established late last season.
Michael Amadio has goals in two straight games. One in Detroit would make him the third Senator to score in each of the team's first three games of a season, joining Daniel Alfredsson (2007) and Bob Kudelski (1993-94).
The Senators have been good at Little Caesars Arena. They are 9-3-4 there since it opened in 2017-18, and the last five meetings in the building have been one-goal games. Ottawa is 3-0-2 in those, with three going to overtime.
Detroit has scored twice in its first two games, both losses. Dylan Larkin could make his season debut Tuesday after missing those games with an upper-body injury. Coach Todd McLellan said he still needed medical clearance after the morning skate, NHL.com reported.
