Senators say Jake Sanderson exit against Canadiens was precautionary

The defenceman assisted on a second-period power-play goal before leaving Ottawa’s home split-squad game.

Jake Sanderson left Ottawa’s home preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens in the second period Saturday. The Senators described his withdrawal as precautionary, Sportsnet reported, without specifying what prompted it.

Sanderson, 24, assisted on Drake Batherson’s power-play goal at 10:31 of the second period. The NHL box score credits Sanderson with 13:22 of ice time, two shots on goal and two hits.

Sanderson had missed Wednesday’s practice with an undisclosed issue, NHL.com reported. He recorded 54 points, including 14 goals, in 67 regular-season games for Ottawa in 2025-26.
