Senators prospect Adam Nemec leaves preseason game after Xhekaj hit

Ottawa Senators prospect Adam Nemec left Saturday’s preseason game at Montreal with an upper-body injury after a hit by Canadiens forward Florian Xhekaj, Sportsnet reported. Nemec did not return to the game.

The NHL game log records an interference penalty against Xhekaj at 11:48 of the first period, with Nemec listed as the player drawn into the penalty. Ottawa scored on the resulting power play six seconds later.

Nemec is 18 and was selected by Ottawa in the third round, 72nd overall, of the 2026 NHL Draft. The club’s September prospect profile says he is expected to play for the Sudbury Wolves this season.
