San Jose Signs Lily Shannon and Mckenna Van Gelder

PWHL San Jose signed forwards Lily Shannon and Mckenna Van Gelder to two-year Standard Player Agreements on Wednesday, running through the 2027-28 season.

Shannon was San Jose's fourth round pick, 40th overall, in the 2026 PWHL Draft on June 17. The 23-year-old from Andover, Massachusetts captained Northeastern in 2025-26 and set career highs with 19 goals and 43 points, finishing second in team scoring and earning Hockey East First Team All-Star honors. She finished her four years with the Huskies with 92 points in 144 games.

Van Gelder, taken 52nd overall in the fifth round, comes out of Cornell with 86 points in 134 games. The 22-year-old from Etobicoke, Ontario served as a senior captain last season and put up 23 points in 33 games. She won gold with Canada at the 2022 IIHF U18 Women's World Championship.

That gives San Jose 18 players under contract for its inaugural season, including 10 forwards, and completes the signing of its first five draft picks. Laila Edwards, forward Sloane Matthews and goaltender Tia Chan each signed three-year agreements through 2028-29, with Matthews (16th overall) and Chan (28th) announced earlier this week.
