Sabres Lose Zellweger to Concussion, Samuelsson Exits Early

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Olen Zellweger suffered a concussion in Tuesday's preseason game against the Columbus Blue Jackets, coach Lindy Ruff told reporters after the game.
Zellweger was helped to the dressing room after a hit by Columbus defenseman Carson Soucy late in the second period. Mattias Samuelsson also left the game after blocking a shot. Ruff said Samuelsson would be evaluated further.
Buffalo acquired Zellweger, 23, from Anaheim for a second-round pick before the 2026 NHL Draft. He has 16 goals and 51 points in 164 NHL games. Last season he set career highs with 15 assists, 22 points and 76 games played.
Samuelsson, 26, had 13 goals and 41 points in 78 regular-season games last season, plus seven points in 13 playoff games. Buffalo opens its regular season at Columbus on Oct. 1.
