Red Wings assign 17 to Grand Rapids, release four tryout players
Detroit sends 11 forwards, four defencemen and two goaltenders to the Griffins; four players on professional tryouts also return to its AHL affiliate.
The Detroit Red Wings assigned 17 players to their AHL affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins, on Friday and released four others from professional tryouts to return there, according to the Griffins.
The assignment group comprises 11 forwards, four defencemen and two goaltenders. Forwards Sheldon Dries and John Leonard, defenceman Shai Buium and goaltender Trey Augustine are among those headed to Grand Rapids.
Detroit also released forward Kienan Draper and defencemen Justice Christensen, Alex Kannok Leipert and Jacob Truscott from their tryouts, returning them to the Griffins. In total, 21 players moved from the Red Wings’ camp to Grand Rapids.
