Rantanen brings five-goal involvement streak into Stars visit to Pittsburgh
Dallas could turn to former Penguin Casey DeSmith in goal after two straight wins, while its power play seeks to build on Thursday’s breakthrough.
The Dallas Stars visit Pittsburgh on Saturday, Oct. 10, with Mikko Rantanen having contributed a goal or an assist to each of their past five goals.
Rantanen has two goals and four assists during a three-game point streak. His four-point performance in Thursday’s 4-0 win at Buffalo accounts for most of that total.
Dallas is looking to build on its first power-play goal of the season after three games without one. Roope Hintz scored it Thursday. Matt Duchene remains out with a lower-body injury, removing another option from the unit.
Casey DeSmith, who previously played for Pittsburgh, could start Saturday, according to the Stars’ game guide. Jake Oettinger has gone 146 minutes and 55 seconds without conceding, but Dallas has not confirmed its starter in that preview.
Coach Glen Gulutzan gave the team Friday off after its second consecutive win. He also wants a more assertive third period: Buffalo outshot Dallas 11-3 in the final frame Thursday after the Stars had built a four-goal lead.
