Rangers sign James Reimer to one-year contract
New York adds an experienced goaltender after Reimer’s professional tryout with Hartford.
The New York Rangers signed James Reimer to a one-year contract on Sunday, Oct. 25, bringing the veteran goaltender back to the NHL after a professional tryout with their AHL affiliate.
Reimer joined the Hartford Wolf Pack on a tryout agreement on Oct. 15. In his only appearance for Hartford, he stopped 35 shots in Friday’s 2-0 victory over the Providence Bruins.
The signing gives New York another option in goal with Igor Shesterkin out for the season because of a lower-body injury suffered against Washington on Oct. 9. Dylan Garand has started eight straight games since that injury, with Spencer Martin serving as his backup.
Reimer’s previous NHL appearance came with Ottawa on April 15, when he made 19 saves in a 3-1 win over Toronto. The Rangers begin a four-game homestand Monday against the Los Angeles Kings.
