Providence Bruins name Billy Sweezey 28th captain
The defenceman takes over after two seasons in Providence’s leadership group.
The Providence Bruins named defenceman Billy Sweezey their 28th captain on Thursday, Oct. 1, the AHL club announced.
Sweezey, 30, joined the Bruins organization in July 2024 and became part of Providence's leadership group that October. He has also served as an alternate captain with the Cleveland Monsters.
Head coach Trent Whitfield praised Sweezey's conduct on and off the ice and said he embodies the qualities the club wants in a captain. Sweezey recorded career highs of 16 assists and 17 points with Providence in 2025-26.
