Penguins list Ben Kindel week-to-week with lower-body injury
The 19-year-old centre, hurt in a pre-season game against Buffalo, did not practice Friday and is no longer day-to-day.
Ben Kindel is week-to-week with a lower-body injury, the Pittsburgh Penguins said in their training-camp update Friday. The 19-year-old centre did not practise, and neither did forward Blake Lizotte, who is also week-to-week with an upper-body injury.
Kindel had carried a day-to-day tag since Monday, when a lower-body injury against the Buffalo Sabres kept him out after the first intermission of a pre-season game.
The club's outlook had already shifted on Thursday. "It's looking more week-to-week at this point," Amanda Kessel, Pittsburgh's director of minor-league operations and assistant general manager of the AHL's Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, told reporters, according to Sportsnet. "We're awaiting some more testing results today."
The injury comes as Kindel heads into his second NHL season. He made the jump as an 18-year-old last season and had 17 goals and 35 points in 77 regular-season games, tied for eighth among rookies.
Pittsburgh took the Coquitlam, B.C., native 11th overall in the 2025 NHL Draft out of the WHL's Calgary Hitmen.
The Penguins play their final pre-season game Saturday in Buffalo.
