Owen Flores Brings Added Goaltending Depth to Reign Camp
The 22-year-old begins his second professional season on a one-year AHL contract with Ontario after splitting last year between Rockford and Indy.
Owen Flores enters Ontario Reign camp on a one-year AHL contract after splitting his first professional season between the AHL and ECHL.
Ontario signed the 22-year-old goaltender July 23. Flores appeared in 25 games for the Indy Fuel last season, posting an 11-10-4 record with a 2.74 goals-against average, a .890 save percentage and three shutouts.
He also played five games for the Rockford IceHogs, the Chicago Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, and finished with a 1.98 goals-against average and a .928 save percentage. Rockford did not re-sign him after his one-year AHL contract expired.
The Los Angeles Kings' goaltending pipeline now includes Hampton Slukynsky and Carter George, two highly regarded prospects beginning their professional careers. The Kings list Flores and Mattias Sholl among their AHL-contracted goaltenders.
Hockey Royalty projects Flores to begin the season with the ECHL's Greenville Swamp Rabbits, where regular starts would keep him available for an Ontario recall if injuries or NHL call-ups reduce the Reign's depth.
The contract gives Flores another season to build on his brief AHL success while competing for playing time within the Kings organization.
