Oilers’ young lineup beats Canucks 2-1 in preseason
Isaac Howard scored and assisted on Quinn Hutson’s goal as Edmonton won in Vancouver; Tristan Jarry made 25 saves.
The Edmonton Oilers beat the Vancouver Canucks 2-1 on Thursday night with a lineup drawn largely from their AHL depth.
Isaac Howard opened the scoring in the first period and assisted on Quinn Hutson's goal early in the second. Howard finished with seven shots, according to Sportsnet. Linus Karlsson scored Vancouver's only goal on the power play. Tristan Jarry made 25 saves for Edmonton.
Vancouver dressed roughly 16 players expected on its opening-night roster, while Edmonton brought only a few projected NHL regulars. Oilers coach Mike Babcock praised the young group: “I was impressed with our group here tonight. We found a way to get it done, and they should feel good about themselves.”
The Oilers finish their preseason schedule at home against the Calgary Flames on Saturday.
