NHL, Norwegian Cruise Line Back Virginia Key Cleanup
Former Panthers and Avalanche forward Peter Worrell joined veterans, scientists and volunteers for a marine conservation project near Miami.
The NHL and Norwegian Cruise Line partnered on a marine cleanup at Virginia Key near Miami last week, with former Florida Panthers and Colorado Avalanche forward Peter Worrell among the volunteers.
The project was part of Norwegian Cruise Line's Sail and Sustain program. The company enlisted Force Blue, a nonprofit that retrains former Special Operations military veterans and deploys them alongside scientists on marine conservation missions. Veterans, scientists and other volunteers worked to reduce environmental hazards on the 1,000-acre barrier island.
Debris Free Ocean, the Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science and the Guy Harvey Foundation also supported the project.
Worrell, who played seven NHL seasons from 1997 to 2004, said the work was about leaving a better environment for future generations.
