Matvei Michkov’s first-period goal against Colorado survived a goaltender interference challenge on Monday, Oct. 19, after the NHL determined that Avalanche defenceman Josh Manson was responsible for the contact with goalie Mackenzie Blackwood.

The Flyers scored at 7:41 of the opening period in Philadelphia. In its explanation, the NHL said Manson’s actions sent Porter Martone into Blackwood before Michkov scored.

The league cited Rule 38.11 (ii), Note 2: contact caused by a defending player pushing or fouling an attacker does not require the goal to be disallowed. The review upheld the on-ice decision.

Colorado received a two-minute delay-of-game penalty for the failed challenge. The NHL’s play-by-play records the penalty at the same 7:41 mark.
