McDavid ties Oates with assist in 18th straight game
The Edmonton captain is five games shy of Wayne Gretzky’s NHL record.
Connor McDavid extended his season-opening assist streak to 18 games on Saturday when he set up Mattias Ekholm 9:14 into the first period against the Vancouver Canucks at Rogers Place. Ekholm’s goal opened the scoring for the Edmonton Oilers.
McDavid tied Adam Oates for the second-longest assist streak in a single NHL season. Oates picked up an assist in 18 straight games with the Boston Bruins in 1992–93. Wayne Gretzky holds the record at 23 games, set with the Los Angeles Kings in 1990–91.
