Maple Leafs sign Nick Blankenburg after training camp tryout

Toronto gave the defenceman a one-year contract after his 24-point season with Nashville and Colorado.

The Toronto Maple Leafs signed defenceman Nick Blankenburg to a one-year contract Sunday after bringing him to training camp on a professional tryout. Sportsnet reported the deal is worth $1.4 million; the club did not disclose a value in its announcement.

Blankenburg, 28, had eight goals and 16 assists in 61 games split between Nashville and Colorado last season. He also scored once in five playoff games for the Avalanche.

The Maple Leafs' announcement lists 58 points (18 goals, 40 assists) in 176 career NHL regular-season games.
