Maple Leafs Put 1927 Crest at Centre Ice
Toronto brought its original Maple Leafs crest back to Scotiabank Arena for the 100th anniversary of the team's name.
The Toronto Maple Leafs have placed their original 1927 crest at centre ice at Scotiabank Arena for the 2026-27 season.
The team revealed the finished design Thursday after live-streaming the installation on its social channels. The dark blue, uneven maple leaf with white block lettering replaces the modern crest normally used at centre ice.
The design marks 100 years since Conn Smythe renamed the Toronto St. Patricks as the Maple Leafs in 1927. It is separate from the franchise's 2016-17 centennial season, which commemorated the organization’s 1917 founding.
The reveal came on the first day of Toronto's NHL training camp. Gavin McKenna, the first overall pick in June's NHL Draft, skated on a line with John Tavares and William Nylander during his first NHL training-camp practice.
Toronto opens the regular season at home against the Montreal Canadiens on Sept. 29, giving fans their first game-night look at the throwback centre-ice design.
