Leafs list Dakota Joshua day-to-day with core injury
GM John Chayka says the forward's nagging core issue leaves him day-to-day with Toronto's season opener against Montreal set for Sept. 29.
Dakota Joshua's injury finally has a label. The Maple Leafs forward has been dealing with a nagging core injury and is considered day-to-day, general manager John Chayka told reporters Wednesday.
That is at least a step past where things stood at the start of the week. Head coach Jim Hiller said Monday only that Joshua was uncertain for the season opener, without specifying the injury. Toronto starts its season Sept. 29 at home against Montreal.
Joshua, 30, is coming off his first season in Toronto after arriving in an off-season trade with Vancouver. He put up 10 goals and eight assists in 55 games and missed 27, and still led the Leafs in hits with 195, which is a fair summary of the job he is there to do.
The Dearborn, Mich., native has 50 goals and 46 assists in 296 career games over six seasons with the Leafs, Canucks and Blues.
The day-to-day designation leaves his availability for the Sept. 29 opener uncertain.
