Kraken's Ville Ottavainen fined after altercation with Flames' Brennan Othmann

Seattle Kraken defenceman Ville Ottavainen was fined $2,190.72 for his role as the aggressor in an altercation with Calgary Flames forward Brennan Othmann, Sportsnet reported Friday, citing the NHL's Department of Player Safety. The outlet reported that the amount is the maximum permitted under the collective bargaining agreement.

The altercation began after Othmann checked Ottavainen along the boards during Thursday's pre-season game. Ottavainen pulled Othmann to the ice and struck him before Calgary defenceman Brayden Pachal intervened, according to Sportsnet.

The NHL's game log places the penalties at 12:38 remaining in the second period. Ottavainen received an instigator minor, a fighting major and a game misconduct. Othmann was assessed a charging minor and a misconduct.

Ottavainen, 24, played 53 games for the AHL's Coachella Valley Firebirds in 2025-26, recording three goals and 14 assists, according to the Kraken.
