Kraken move Catton back to centre, Wright to wing
Lane Lambert’s mid-camp switch put Catton in the middle ahead of Seattle’s season opener.
Seattle Kraken coach Lane Lambert switched Berkly Catton and Shane Wright midway through training camp, moving Catton back to centre after a season on the wing, the club reported Sunday.
Catton scored seven goals and added 10 assists in 66 NHL games in 2025-26, his first full season. "It's nice to have the puck in the middle of the ice," he said after Seattle's Thursday preseason win over Calgary. "That's where I like to have the puck. Defensively, I've done it my whole life [at center], so it feels a little easier."
Lambert said Wright's shooting and Catton's playmaking informed the switch. "Berkly, he has an ability to make plays," the coach told the Kraken's website. "Potentially having the puck on his stick coming through the middle of the ice would be something that we're looking for."
Catton scored the deciding shootout attempt in Thursday's 4-3 win over Calgary. He added a third-period goal in Saturday's 4-3 preseason loss to Vancouver, when Ryan Winterton set him up in close.
