Patrick Kane moved ahead of Phil Housley for the most NHL assists by a U.S.-born player on Thursday, Oct. 15, setting up Connor Bedard’s opening power-play goal against the Winnipeg Jets in Chicago.

The assist was Kane’s 895th in the regular season, surpassing Housley’s career total of 894. Kane reached the mark in his 1,377th game, according to the Associated Press report carried by Sportsnet.

Kane also holds the NHL points record for U.S.-born players. He passed Mike Modano on Jan. 29, 2026, while playing for Detroit, and the assist against Winnipeg took his career total to 1,404 points.

The milestone comes during Kane’s return to the Blackhawks on a two-year contract. Chicago drafted him first overall in 2007, and he won three Stanley Cups during his first stint with the club.
