Jets preview: Arniel seeks faster exits against Hurricanes
Winnipeg returns home Saturday after a 4-3 overtime loss in Chicago, with its coach focused on handling Carolina’s pressure.
The Winnipeg Jets host the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday, Oct. 17, with coach Scott Arniel looking for a stronger opening period and quicker exits from the defensive zone.
Winnipeg earned a point in six of its first seven games, but Arniel said slow starts against Minnesota and Chicago left the Jets having to improve over the final two periods. They lost 4-3 in overtime to the Blackhawks on Thursday.
In the Jets’ official game-day preview, Arniel emphasised recognising pressure early and moving the puck cleanly. Defenceman Dylan DeMelo said Carolina can quickly take control when an opponent is unprepared.
Alex Iafallo scored Thursday, giving Winnipeg offence outside its top line for a second straight game. Arniel also welcomed the offensive-zone time generated by the line featuring Viggo Björck and Gabe Vilardi as the rookie prepared for his seventh NHL game.
