Jankowski, Hurricanes look to extend streaks in Calgary

Mark Jankowski returns to Calgary on Sunday, Oct. 18, with goals in six consecutive games as the Carolina Hurricanes try to extend their winning streak to eight. The game at Scotiabank Saddledome starts at 8 p.m. ET, or 6 p.m. MT. Calgary’s television coverage is on Sportsnet West, with radio coverage on QR Calgary.

Brandon Bussi is expected to start for Carolina, while Devin Cooley will be in goal for Calgary, according to NHL.com’s projected lineups. Calgary’s warm-up lines include Brennan Othmann alongside Jonathan Castagna and Adam Klapka. Othmann sat out Thursday’s game in Vegas.

Seth Jarvis skated with the Hurricanes in Calgary on Sunday morning but remains listed as injured following shoulder surgery in June. Coach Rod Brind’Amour said Friday that the forward was still awaiting medical clearance. Jordan Staal (calf) and Taylor Hall (upper body) are also sidelined.

Carolina improved to 7-1-1 with Saturday’s 3-2 victory in Winnipeg. Jankowski and Jesperi Kotkaniemi scored before Nikolaj Ehlers supplied the deciding power-play goal in the third period. The Hurricanes have won all five of their road games this season.

The Flames enter at 1-6-0 after Thursday’s 6-2 loss in Vegas. Sunday opens a four-game homestand, giving Calgary a chance to reset after its difficult start.

Calgary coach Ryan Huska has stressed the need to limit penalties. The Flames were short-handed five times in each of their past two games, according to Field Level Media’s preview. Carolina converted both of its power plays against Winnipeg.
