Jack Hughes Scores Late as Devils Beat Rangers 3-2
Hughes broke a third-period tie with 2:12 remaining to give New Jersey its second win of the preseason.
Jack Hughes scored with 2:12 remaining in regulation to give the New Jersey Devils a 3-2 preseason win over the New York Rangers at Prudential Center on Monday.
Nico Hischier opened the scoring with 8:05 left in the second period, beating Rangers goaltender Dylan Garand from the hashmarks. Timo Meier and Luke Evangelista assisted.
Anton Blidh tied the game from the top of the right circle before Meier restored New Jersey's lead with an unassisted wraparound goal with 49.6 seconds left in the second. Drew Fortescue tied it again near the midpoint of the third, setting up Hughes' winner.
The Devils dressed close to a full NHL lineup, including Brett Pesce. Their forward combinations included Hughes between Anthony Mantha and Jesper Bratt, and Hischier centering Meier and Evangelista. The Rangers did not dress their familiar top players.
