Islanders visit Maple Leafs to close road trip as DeBoer weighs lineup

Pete DeBoer cited puck management and penalties after Thursday’s shootout loss; New York visits Toronto at 7 p.m. ET on Saturday.

Pete DeBoer could change the Islanders’ lineup when New York finishes its two-game road trip against Toronto on Saturday, Oct. 17. The game at Scotiabank Arena starts at 7 p.m. ET.

In the Islanders’ official preview, DeBoer pointed to puck management and penalties when explaining his decisions in Thursday’s shootout loss to Ottawa. Calum Ritchie, Anthony Duclair and Matthew Kessel all went without shifts for extended stretches late in that game. The club said further lineup information would follow Saturday’s morning skate.

Matias Maccelli scored New York’s goal in the 2-1 loss and extended his point streak to five games. Semyon Varlamov stopped 18 of 19 shots before the shootout.

Toronto also enters after losing beyond regulation. The Maple Leafs surrendered a two-goal third-period lead in Thursday’s 5-4 overtime loss to Buffalo despite three goals from Kirill Marchenko. According to the Islanders’ preview, Toronto has conceded at least three goals in seven of its eight games.
